Workshop Series with International Instructors Lya Elcagu and El Chino Necchi

Friday 8/23 :

Meet and Greet Practica with Lya and Chino at Endless Sound Cellars from 7-10PM.

Come meet the maestros, enjoy a tanda with these extraordinary folks on a night filled with wine and tango. Izzy Daniel will play a live violin music set from 8-8:40PM. This evening will include demos from our esteemed guests.

This will replace our usual 3rd Wednesday of the month practica on 8/21, please mark your calendars for this special time change.

Saturday 8/24: Olympia Workshop Series

Argentine Tango Series I

  • 10 AM - 12 PM From Floor to Embrace- Using the floor to find stability and connection in our embrace.

  • 1 PM - 3PM Discovering the Musical Territories- Looking at most common phrasing structures in tango to ensure prepared and precise timing with our partner.

Sunday 8/25: A Day in Kitsap County

Argentine Tango Beginner Bootcamp at Northwest School of Dance

  • 1 PM - 2:15PM What You Need to Know about Embrace and Connection - This class will look at why we focus on the embrace and start you off with tools to build a comfortable, adaptable and beautiful tango embrace that's transferable to the social floor. Lya and Chino will go over the most important points for the embrace so you can move forward with confidence in your tango hug.

  • 3:45PM - 4 PM The Tango Walk - Lya and Chino will discuss the fundamental techniques for the quintessential tango walk- what makes it unique and what are the most important considerations with foot placement, weight transfer and connection to create a pleasing and communicative tango walk.

The Kitsap class series is $35 drop in, $55 for class series; couples registering together $100 for class series

Monday 8/26: Tango Embodiment Workshop Series

  • 7 - 9 PM Embodied Tango I -Explore the role of lead and follow and how to foster safety, security, equality, confidence, and creativity on the dance floor as an individual and tango couple; the first hour the leads will spend doing independent work with Chino, follows with Jennifer and Lya, and the last half hour we will come together to put our work into practice. Location TBD. 90 minute workshop; part of a two part series.

Friday 8/30: Milonga! The Rhythmic Side of Tango series in collaboration with OlyDance

  • 6 - 7 PM Intro to Vals- We'll explore the very basic waltz rhythm in tango and give you the basics to get out on the floor for that vals tanda. How is vals time signature different than tango? What are the important qualities that makes vals unique?

  • 7 - 8 PM Milonga! Next Steps- We've been studying the basic rhythms of Milonga Lisa and traspie- now lets put them to use on the floor. Let's look at some common formations in milonga that will helps us navigate and give some fun to our partner on the social floor. Simple, connected and rhythmic- with the swagger of the milonga.

Saturday 8/31: Olympia Workshop Series

Argentine Tango Series I

  • 10 AM - 12 PM “The Dream Team”- Let’s explore axis, standing leg and free leg in this two hour workshop with Lya and Chino.

  • 1 PM - 3PM Using the Musical Qualities- how do we blend musical qualities in one one dance? Let’s explore how to move seamlessly between qualities- quite possibility the most important element of tango.
